The Bregenzerwald Guest Card explained – what is included, what is not, and what hosts should know
Cable cars, buses, pools: the Guest Card is the most-asked extra in the Bregenzerwald. An overview for hosts who want to give their guests the right answer.
“Is that free with the card?” is the fourth most common question to our concierge in summer. Rightly so: the Bregenzerwald Guest Card is a strong argument for the region – if guests understand how it works. Here are the facts as we have stored them in the regional knowledge.
When and for whom
The card is valid in the summer season, from 1 May to 31 October. Guests receive it from three nights at a participating business – the host hands it out at check-in. It is included in the room rate, there is no surcharge. Children get their own card.
What is included
- All cable cars in the Bregenzerwald – Diedamskopf, Mellau, Bezau, Damüls, Andelsbuch, Hittisau and more; up and down as often as you like.
- Bus and train – the entire Landbus Bregenzerwald and the Wälderbahn connections within the region.
- Outdoor pools in Au, Bezau, Egg, Hittisau and Lingenau and the indoor pool in Egg.
- Museums such as the Women's Museum Hittisau, the Franz Michael Felder Museum in Schoppernau and the Werkraum house in Andelsbuch (exhibitions).
What is not included
Summer toboggan runs, rentals (e-bikes, scooters), mountain restaurants, guided tours with extra charge (e.g. cheese cellar tour with tasting) and offers outside the Bregenzerwald – such as the Pfänder cable car in Bregenz or trips to Lindau. Exactly these edge cases are the most common follow-up questions.
Three tips for hosts
- Explain the card at check-in, do not just hand it over. One sentence is enough: “With this, cable car and bus are free, pools too.”
- Use the bus as an argument. Many guests do not know they can get to Bezau, Egg or Bregenz without a car – free with the card. That relieves parking and makes excursions more relaxed.
- Know the exceptions. Knowing the toboggan run is not included spares guests the disappointment at the till.
All of this is stored in the HejGast concierge – including the question “Is the lift running today?”, which we fetch live from the cable car companies. And when the rules change, we change them once, for every business in the village.
