# What the EU AI Act means for hosts

Since August 2026 the transparency obligations of the AI Act apply. Anyone offering guests an AI chat needs to consider three things. No panic – it is less than it sounds.

The EU AI Act has been in force since 1 August 2024; its obligations apply in stages. One date matters for hosts: since **2 August 2026** the transparency obligations under Article 50 apply. They concern anyone who lets people interact with an AI system – including a guest chat.

## Am I affected at all?

If you offer your guests a chat answered by an AI, you are a “deployer” in the sense of the regulation – not a “provider”. The provider is whoever develops the system (for HejGast: HeJaa e.U.). As a deployer you have significantly fewer obligations. The most important: your guests must know they are talking to an AI.

## The three points that count

1. **Labelling.** The guest must be able to recognise that they are interacting with an AI system – at the latest at the first interaction, unless it is obvious anyway. A notice in the chat (“AI answer – may contain errors”) and on the sign fulfils this.
2. **No deception.** The chat must not pretend to be a human. A name like “concierge” is fine; an invented staff member with a photo would not be.
3. **Data protection stays data protection.** The AI Act does not replace the GDPR. For your guests' data you still need a privacy policy and – if a service provider processes the data – a data processing agreement.

## What does not come your way

A guest concierge is not a “high-risk system”. You need no conformity assessment, no registration, no risk management documentation. That applies to systems in areas such as recruitment, credit scoring or critical infrastructure – not to the question of when the bakery is open.

## How HejGast implements this

- Every answer carries the notice “AI answer · may contain errors” – in the guest's language.
- The sign names HejGast as an AI concierge.
- The privacy policy is in six languages right in the chat.
- You receive a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR in the host area.
- The concierge never pretends to be human. When a human takes over (your reply to a follow-up), it is labelled as such.

In short: if you use HejGast, the transparency obligations are met without you having to do anything. If you use another system, check the three points above.
